  • Baltra Island
Baltra Island airport will be our starting and ending point for this trip
  • Santa Cruz Island 
Take a bus ride through the highlands of Santa Cruz Island, visit the giant tortoises' reserve while learning about these slow-walking creatures and take a walk through a lava tunnel to learn about the area's geology. Take a zodiac ride to Eden Islet to observe blue-footed boobies, reef sharks and frigates. Learn about the area's volcanic setting, which is quite stunning due to its variety of volcanic debris, including cinder cones, tuff cones, and semi-eroded lava flows.
  • Chinese Hat Islet
Explore the Chinese Hat Islet. A tiny island formed recently. The islet waters host marine wildlife along its 400-metre lengths, such as white-tipped reef sharks and Galapagos penguins. Swim and snorkel are available.
  • Bartolome Island
Visit the imposing Pinnacle Rock located on Bartolome island. Another great place for a swim and snorkel. Hike up to the island summit for splendid views over the archipelago. Explore the rugged and volcanic shoreline aboard the dinghies.
  • Santiago Island
Onboard the pangas, we will make our way to Sullivan Bay, located on the east coast of Santiago island, and enjoy a walk on the beautiful white coral sand beach, a good beach for swimming and snorkelling. With an extensive lava field, this is the perfect place to learn about the volcanic origin of the Galapagos while observing its wildlife.
  • Genovesa Island
Stroll on Darwin Bay to observe marine and land birds. Swim, snorkel, kayak and paddle-board are available. Climb the short but steep Prince Philip Steps and enjoy a nice walk to watch large colonies of Nazca boobies, frigate-birds, storm petrels and the elusive short-eared owl.

  • Baltra Island
The start and end point of the Eastern trip.
  • South Plaza Island
Visit this small but spectacular island where the turquoise waters of the channel contrast brilliantly with the shoreline of white sand and black lava. A carpet of Scarlet Sesuvium serves as ground cover for a grove of luminescent green prickly-pear cactus. Yellow-grey land iguanas and sea lion colonies populate the South Plaza island.
  • Santa Fe Island 
Take a dinghy ride to an idyllic white-sand beach in Santa Fe island populated by colonies of sea lions and Galapagos hawks often perched atop salt bushes. Take a walk to spot Santa Fe land iguanas, unique creatures to this island. Snorkel/swim along a natural wave barrier or take a ride on our glass-bottom boat.
  • San Cristobal Island
Puerto Baquerizo Moreno is San Cristobal's capital town. We will drive for 40 minutes to reach Cerro Colorado, where we will visit the highly endangered giant tortoises breeding centre. The slow walkers usually relax amidst the deciduous forest, home to dozens of bird species, including the San Cristobal mockingbird and the San Cristobal lava lizard. Take a walk in Punta Pitt while enjoying great views of the landscape. The island is home to a colony of bachelor sea lions. Explore and walk on Cerro Brujo, home to some seabird species.
  • Española Island
Take an exciting walk in Punta Suarez. Walk on a lava/boulder terrain while watching sea bird colonies, including the waved albatrosses (April – January), boobies, swallow-tail gulls, red-green-black marine iguana and the famous “blowhole” lava formation. Visit Gardner Bay, and take a short walk on its white coral beach to observe sea lions, mockingbirds, and finches. A good place for snorkelling.
  • Santa Cruz Island
Visit the Charles Darwin Research Station to learn about the captive rearing program for giant tortoises. Witness the efforts and the results obtained by the Darwin station science field workers.

The Western Galápagos cruise trip will take you to discover:
  • Baltra Island
This trip starts and ends at the airport on Baltra Island.
  • North Seymour Island
Tour one of the best sites in the archipelago, North Seymour island. The island is a result of oceanic uplift from a volcanic event. And is home to a tiny forest of silver-grey Palo Santo trees which typically are leafless and remain dormant for a half year awaiting the rain to bloom. The island also hosts bird colonies such as blue-footed boobies, two species of frigate birds and swallow-tailed gulls fly, and sea lions and marine iguanas.
  • Isabela Island
Sail around Punta Vicente Roca while learning from your naturalist guide about the dramatic geology of the island. Snorkel along the cliffs is available. Explore Urbina Bay, located on the western side of Isabela Island, home to corals, shells and colourful Galapagos land iguanas, as well as (occasionally) giant tortoises. Navigate through Bolívar Channel to spot (if possible) several species of whales. Explore Tagus Cove, situated northwest of Isabela island, a popular place for pirates and whalers in the past centuries. Take an uphill hike to a saltwater crater, Darwin Crater.​

  • Rabida Island
Stroll on Rabida Island's red-sand beach to observe marine iguanas, mockingbirds, yellow warblers and several species of Darwin finches.

  • Santa Cruz Island 
Climb Dragon Hill, located on the north shore of Santa Cruz island, and visit a brackish water lagoon frequented by lagoon birds and land iguanas. Enjoy beautiful views over the bay and the Archipelago western islands. 
Visit Charles Darwin Research Station, the Galapagos scientific investigation headquarters. Tour the giant tortoise pens located in an impressive giant prickly-pear cactus forest. Drive through Santa Cruz island highlands in search of the emblematic Darwin Finches and the endemic Scalesia trees.
  • Floreana Island
Sail to the Post Office Bay (Floreana Island) to visit the historic barrel, a post office in the archipelago for over two centuries. Take a panga ride to the Floreana island north shore to sail through the maze of channels. Kayak and swimming are available. Take a ride on our glass-bottom boat along the coast of an extinct cone called Champion Islet. Visit Punta Cormorant and take a walk on its olivine-crystal beach close to a brackish water lagoon, the habitat of American flamingos.

In true expedition style we encourage exploration and adventure, offering flexibility in challenging environments in a way that puts you among the action to see and do as much as possible. 
​Our itineraries are guidelines to follow day-by-day. However, some changes may occur prior to departure or during the tour due to weather conditions, seasonal changes that can alter timetables, flight schedules and transport routes. These changes can happen with little notice so please be prepared for alterations along the route. Bear in mind on occasion, the timing of included activities in each location may also differ from the timetable written on your itinerary.

CABIN CATEGORIES

The vessel’s 24 cabins are divided into two categories: the one- or two-passenger standard Luxury Cabin and the larger Luxury Cabin Plus, which features a comfortable sofa for an additional guest. Should folks traveling as part of a family or group wish to have connecting rooms, there are four pairs of cabins with this feature. La Pinta boasts some of the largest cabins that any other Galapagos expedition vessel, with windows from floor-to-ceiling, plenty of space and ample bathrooms.

However, due to logistical reasons, these fees can only be included when guests travel on the operational departure date and not before.

TRAVELER TIPS

VISAS
Please visit the relevant consular website of the countries you'll be visiting for more detailed and up-to-date visa information. If you need a visa, please obtain your visa in advance.

HEALTH AND CERTIFICATIONS
Most countries in South America do not require any vaccination certificates from travellers to enter the countries. However, travellers should stay up-to-date on their vaccines including measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine, diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis vaccine, varicella (chickenpox) vaccine, hepatitis A, B, typhoid, rabies and yellow fever vaccine.  If your itinerary includes subtropical and tropical regions/areas, it's recommended to vaccinate against Hepatitis B and yellow fever. 

SAFETY 
Pickpocketing is a common crime in some large cities. If you do find time to explore on your own, below are some key precautions to take:
  1. Request a taxi service through the hotel staff. You can also call UBER which operates in a few cities.
  2. Wear your backpack/bag to the front when walking through bigger crowds.
  3. Do not carry your wallet in the back pocket of your trousers.
  4. Avoid wearing fancy jewellry.
  5. Leave original documents, credit cards in the hotel safe box, taking the bare minimum of cash with you. It’s always a good idea to hide cash in different parts of your clothes.
  6. A neck/waist money belt can be very handy to keep cash hidden.
  7. In restaurant/cafes, do not hang your bag/backpack on the arm of the chairs or leave it sitting on the floor.
  8. Always take note of the serial numbers of your larger bills (ie: 20, 50, 100 and 200 Soles) before paying taxi drivers and small shops. There were a few cases where travellers were told their bills were fake. By taking note of the serial numbers before use, you stand a better chance of getting your money back.
  9. At night, always walk on well lit streets.
  10. Withdraw cash only during the day and from ATMs located inside banks or guarded ATMs.
  11. Cover ATMs keyboard with one hand when typing your pin number.
  12. Do not get into a car by someone’s invitation, even if it's a police car.

TRANSPORTATION
Public transportation in some countries are not well organised. However, in some large cities public transportation is well stablished and available to reach tourist areas. To use public transportation, please ask the hotel staff for detailed information.
Another way to move around is through radio taxis. Some countries have the taxi system regulated such as Brasil, Chile, Argentina and Ecuador where taxis use meters, other countries, taxis have not been regulated (no taximeters) which means you must negotiate the taxi fare first before getting into a taxi. Otherwise, risk paying the foreigner price. From/to the International Airport, you should arrange a taxi with your hotel or a transfer company prior to arrival/departure for a fixed fare. 
​Upon boarding a taxi, always make sure the driver sets up the taximeter, you must request it otherwise.
