Located in the Andes Mountain Range, the Inca trail runs through cloud forests, uplands, tunnels and a great number of Inca ruins ending at the Sun Gate, the entrance to one of the World's seven wonders, Machu Picchu. Don't miss the chance to hike on this enigmatic trail while enjoying spectacular views.
*Designed for experienced active travellers in excellent physical condition. Itineraries may include full-day hikes (sometimes at high altitude) or full-day climbing excursions. Trails often include steep ascents/descents on mountainous terrain, with some exposed sections.

ITINERARY
DAY 1
CUSCO / ARRIVAL DAY
Upon arrival, take a car transfer to your hotel in the city centre (a 20 min cab ride). The rest of the day will be free for you to explore the beautiful city of Cusco and its surroundings.
DAY 2
INCA TRAIL / HUAYLLABAMBA
You'll be picked up in your hotel to be transferred to KM 82 to start a 15km hike on the ancient path of the Incas. While hiking, enjoy amazing views of lush green mountains and the giant snow-capped Mount Veronica (5,682 m.a.s.l). Camp tonight will be at Huayllabamba.

DAY 3
INCA TRAIL / HUAYLLABAMBA / PACAYMAYO
After breakfast, continue your hike up to the highest pass on the trail, Dead Woman pass (Warmiwañusca at 4,200 m.a.s.l). Upon arrival, enjoy fantastic views of the valley. Along with your guide, learn about the native plants you will encounter on the trail. After lunch, walk down to Pacaymayo Valley, where you will spend the night.

DAY 4
INCA TRAIL / PACAYMAYO / WIÑAYHUAYNA
After breakfast, start the hike up to the second pass, Runku Rakay, at 3,800 m.a.s.l. After crossing the pass, hike down to the ancient Inca Temple, Sayacmarca. Enjoy splendid views of the snow-capped mountains around. After lunch, continue towards Wiñayhuayna, where you'll spend the night.

DAY 5
WIÑAYHUAYNA / MACHU PICCHU
Finally, the most exciting day has arrived. Begin with a very early start to hike up to the entrance of the ancient Incas' citadel, the Sun Gate. Upon arrival, enjoy remarkable views of Machu Picchu. And if nature allows, you'll have the chance to be a witness to the terrific Sunrise. After spending some time at the sun gate, hike down to the complex, where you'll enjoy a very informative tour through this lovely Inca complex. After the tour, enjoy some free time before heading down to Aguas Calientes town to take a train back to Ollantaytambo. From here, take a transfer back to Cusco.

Please visit the relevant consular website of the countries you'll be visiting for more detailed and up-to-date visa information. If you need a visa, please obtain your visa in advance.
HEALTH AND CERTIFICATIONS
Peru does not require any vaccination certificates from travelers to enter the country. However, travelers should stay up-to-date on their vaccines including measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine, diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis vaccine, varicella (chickenpox) vaccine, hepatitis A, B, typhoid, rabies and yellow fever vaccine. If your itinerary includes the departments/states of Amazonas, Loreto, San Martin, Ucayali, Junin and Madre de Dios, it's recommended to vaccinate against Hepatitis B and yellow fever.
SAFETY
Pickpocketing is common in certain areas/cities. If you do find time to explore on your own, below are some key precautions to take:
TRANSPORTATION
Transportation in Peru is not that well organized. However, public transportation is available to reach tourist areas such as Miraflores, Lima Centre, Barranco etc. To use public transportation, please ask the hotel staff for detailed information.
Another way to move around is through radio taxis. In Peru, the taxi system is not regulated. Taxis do not use meters which means you must negotiate the taxi fare first before getting into a taxi. Otherwise, risk paying the foreigner price. To get an idea of cost, calculate your transit time. If a taxi ride takes 20 min, the cost of the ride will be roughly 15 to 20 soles. From Miraflores to Lima Centre, it usually takes around 15 min which should cost around 10 to 15 soles. From/to the International Airport, you should arrange a taxi with your hotel prior to arrival/departure for a fixed fare of USD $20. You can also take a cab on the street but keep in mind, most of these taxis do not have a permit to enter into the airport so you will be dropped off outside the airport.

- Request a taxi service through the hotel staff. You can also call EASY TAXI and UBER, both of which operate in a few cities: Lima, Arequipa, Piura, Chiclayo and Cusco.
- Wear your backpack/bag to the front when walking through bigger crowds.
- Do not carry your wallet in the back pocket of your trousers.
- Avoid wearing fancy jewelry.
- Leave original documents, credit cards in the hotel safe box, taking the bare minimum of cash with you. It’s always a good idea to hide cash in different parts of your clothes.
- A neck/waist money belt can be very handy to keep cash hidden.
- In restaurant/cafes, do not hang your bag/backpack on the arm of the chairs or leave it sitting on the floor.
- Always take note of the serial numbers of your larger bills (ie: 20, 50, 100 and 200 Soles) before paying taxi drivers and small shops. There were a few cases where travelers were told their bills were fake. By taking note of the serial numbers before use, you stand a better chance of getting your money back.
- At night, always walk on well lit streets.
- Withdraw cash only during the day and from ATMs located inside banks or guarded ATMs.
- Cover ATMs keyboard with one hand when typing your pin number.
- Do not get into a car by someone’s invitation, even if it's a police car.
